Role - Process Engineering Manager/Lead {Confidential}

We are conducting a confidential search for a dynamic leader to take on the role of Process Engineering Manager/Lead within a prominent Engineering firm. This key position is part of the leadership team, tasked with overseeing all process engineering and design services and personnel.

The appointed manager will ensure the Process Engineering & Design team delivers professional work products (PWPs) that meet or exceed both internal and client standards for quality and timeliness. The role requires excellent management skills, technical expertise in process engineering and design, and the ability to function effectively in secondary roles such as Project Engineer, technical SME, or Project Manager as needed.

Areas of Accountability:

Engineering Operations, Strategy, and Execution:

  • Develop and implement standards, procedures, policies, and templates to enhance the quality and efficiency of outputs.
  • Oversee the adherence to the company's Professional Practice Management Plan (PPMP) in all department activities.
  • Manage the quality and utilization of engineering software and tools.
  • Oversee departmental budgets for training, overheads, compensation adjustments, and more.
  • Stay abreast of emerging technologies and industry trends to maintain and enhance the firm’s innovative edge.
  • Foster and maintain professional relationships within the industry.
  • Support business development efforts by providing technical insights for marketing materials and client engagements.

Engineering & Design Staff Oversight and Management:

  • Conduct performance evaluations, one-on-one meetings, and facilitate career development for team members.
  • Manage hiring, terminations, and conflict resolution in alignment with company strategy.
  • Continuously assess and develop the skills and aptitudes of team members, organizing necessary training.
  • Allocate team members to projects according to their skills and the needs of the projects, ensuring resource and quality alignment.
  • Implement coaching and mentoring programs, especially for junior team members and Members-in-Training.

Technical Support and Design (Secondary Role):

  • Lead or contribute to engineering projects.
  • Participate in QA/QC activities.
  • Authenticate and stamp PWPs as required.
  • Provide technical input for bids and proposals.

Qualification Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Process, Chemical, or a related Engineering discipline.
  • Registered as a Professional Engineer in Alberta (registration in other jurisdictions is an asset).
  • At least 10 years of engineering experience, with a minimum of 5 years in a management capacity.
  • Proven ability to develop and maintain strong professional relationships.
  • Exceptional leadership, supervisory, and time management skills.
  • Expert knowledge in Process Engineering & Design, familiar with industries such as Utilities, Energy Services, Energy Storage, Power Generation, and/or Renewables.
