Financial Controller

Our client, TNDC, is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Financial Controller to join their team.  Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), the Financial Controller is responsible for delivering operational business results through the leadership of the financial functions of the organization. This includes supporting the CFO with long-range financial goals and strategies, developing appropriate policies and procedures, budget oversight and assisting with corporate reporting to the CEO and Board of Directors.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership and oversight of the Finance, Accounting & Payroll Team
  • Provide daily direction to the Finance, Accounting & Payroll Team, with a focus on building knowledge and skills
  • Ensure the Finance Team is cross trained to create redundancies and minimize operational risks
  • Provide coaching and feedback to the team on a frequent basis to help them grow and take on additional projects
  • Working with the CFO, implement Cash management strategy
  • Working with the CFO, assist with the annual budget development process,
  • Develop a robust financial reporting and performance analysis process and supporting procedures, to ensure that all operational and strategic decisions are supported with relevant financial data
  • Lead the annual audit process, working with the Finance team to minimize external auditors time and expense, resulting in a positive audit report
  • Work with Finance, Accounting & Payroll team to ensure all financial processes are followed according to GAAP
  • Do routine quality control of financial entries and transactions, including payroll and benefits administration
  • Assist the Finance team with minimization of Accounts Receivable, to maximize cash flow 
  • Ensure that financial remittances are being paid appropriately
  • Work with the Finance, Accounting & Payroll team to ensure that income statements, balance sheets and general ledger reports are available for CFO review monthly, and that relevant Board Reports are also created monthly
  • Ensure contract deliverables are met by all parties, along with regular reporting
  • Other related duties as required by the organization

 

Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary education in business, finance or accounting, with a CPA professional designation required
  • At least four years’ experience working in a financial leadership role, with operational and strategic finance responsibilities
  • Construction accounting experience is considered an asset
  • At least two years’ experience in a formal people leadership role 
  • A successful track record and expertise in identifying and driving value in an organization through opportunity evaluation, strategic finance and optimization of operational financial practices
  • Complex cash management and Business Case development knowledge
  • Ability to lead an annual budgeting process and annual audit process
  • Ability to work with a Board of Directors and understand governance accountabilities and processes
  • Ability to develop and contribute to a positive corporate culture, and a fair and respectful workplace
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team
  • Ability to work independently and efficiently, and manage time effectively
  • Ability to organize and prioritize workload
  • Ability to interpret applicable legislation
  • Ability to conduct research and analysis
